MAX KLEIN BIBLE MINISTRIES

The Donkey is a Hardy

Written by: Max Klein

The donkey is a hardy, long-eared animal that can live on little sustenance in harsh conditions. It was first domesticated over 5,000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians, who used it for the transportation of goods.

This usage spread throughout the world, and today donkeys are still employed for cheap labor in Central America, while their skin and meat are also often used.

There are a variety of breeds of donkey (also known as an ass or a burro), all of which are smaller than the average horse. A male donkey is known as a jackass while a female is called a jennet.

The donkey is sometimes considered to be the domesticated version of the wild ass.

A mule, meanwhile, is the offspring of a jackass and a female horse (or mare), while a hinny is the offspring of a male horse (or stallion) and a jennet.

While donkeys have sixty-two chromosomes and horses sixty-four, such hybrids have sixty-three chromosomes and are usually born sterile.
