MAX KLEIN BIBLE MINISTRIES

Jesus Christ is Unique

Written by: Max Klein

As the unique person of the universe, Jesus Christ possesses two natures that are inseparably united in “hypostatic union” without loss or mixture of separate identity, without loss or transfer of properties or attributes, the union being personal and eternal. He is undiminished deity and true humanity in one person forever.

Colossians 1:15. Who [Jesus Christ in His deity] is an exact image of the invisible God, the first born [first to be born perfect with a human spirit and the Filling of the Spirit; later others in the Church Age will be born again and Filled with the Spirit] of all creation [with reference to a particular part of all human creatures namely the Church Age].

God the Son is the only visible member of the Trinity who became the God-Man at the Incarnation.

John 1:14. And the Word [title for the deity of Christ] became flesh, and dwelt among us [during the 1st Advent], and we [the apostles] beheld His glory, the glory as of the uniquely born one [born without a sin nature, without the imputation of Adam’s sin, and simultaneously as He received his human life, the deity of God the Son united with his humanity] from the Father, full of grace and truth.

His title, ‘Lord’ which is Kurios in the Greek and Yahweh (Jehovah) in the Hebrew, proclaims His deity. The designation “Christ,” meaning “the Anointed One” or “Messiah,” indicates that He will rule in the Millennium as king over Israel and the world. The name Jesus may be translated as ‘Savior’ is the name of His humanity and signifies His redemptive work on the cross.

Matthew 1:21. She will give birth to a son and you [Joseph] will call His name Jesus for He will save [Jesus is a transliteration of the Hebrew name “Joshua /Yehoshua” meaning “The Lord is (our) salvation”] His people [the Jews] from their sins [on the cross: since this passage is discussing the Jews, it doesn’t mention the gentiles].

God the Son made a decision in eternity past to become the God-Man.

Philippians 2:6-8. Who though He existed in the essence of God did not think equality with God [in the sense of remaining deity alone] a gain [a treasure] to be seized and held, (7) but, he laid aside his privileges [deprived Himself of the proper function of deity for the duration of the 1st Advent in that he did not violate God the Father’s plan for his humanity; for example he did not use his deity to turn stones into bread] taking on the form of a servant, having become in the likeness of men [overtly but not inwardly for he did not possess a sin nature], and being found in outward appearance as a man. (8) He [his humanity] humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of [substitutional spiritual in that he received the punishment for all sins] death that is the death of the cross.

Jesus had to be true humanity and he had to be descended from the line of David.

Matthew 1:18, 21. Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: His mother, Mary [descended from David via Nathan] had been contractually married to Joseph [descended from David via Solomon] but before [emphatic form in the Greek] they had come together [in sexual intercourse], she was found to be pregnant from the source of the Holy Spirit. [She provided 23 chromosomes from the line of David, and the Holy Spirit provided 23 male chromosomes.] (21) She will give birth to a son, and you [Joseph] will call His name Jesus for He will save His people [the Jews] from their sins.

Romans 1:3, concerning his son who was born from the seed of David according to the flesh [true humanity].

Jesus Christ has three royal families namely Divine, Davidic and the Church. As eternal God, Jesus Christ is royalty. His title is Son of God equal with the Father and with the Holy Spirit who are His royal family. Jesus Christ in His humanity was born into the Jewish royal family. As the Son of David, the entire family of David which preceded Him and which followed Him are His royal family. As a result of his strategic victory over Satan, the resurrected and ascended humanity of Christ was seated at the right hand of the Father and given the designation, King over kings and Lord over lords (to be fulfilled at the 2nd Advent), and with this new title he would be given a royal family namely the universal church.

Jesus Christ is in the Divine Decree:

Romans 1:4. who was marked-out, [by the Divine Decree] Son of God [emphasizes the identity of Christ before the virgin birth/incarnation] by means of power according to the Holy Spirit [the proto-type spiritual life given to the humanity of Christ as per Isaiah 11:2] by means of resurrection from death [physical death: the plural of this noun is many times used for the singular], Jesus Christ our Lord.

The deity of Christ is called the Son of God because of his role as it relates to the human race. It does not imply that the Son is subordinate, obedient or inferior to God the Father for they are co-equal, co-eternal and co-infinite and have the same attributes etc. As such, God the Son obeys no one. Just as God the Son functions like a son so God the Father functions like a father toward mankind, but God the Son is not a son, and God the Father is not a father.

He, the deity of Christ bears every attribute of deity and is eternally related to the other two members of the Trinity.

John 1:1, 3. In the beginning [in eternity past] was the Word [a title of God the Son], and the Word was face to face with God [the Father], and the Word was God. (3). All things came into being through Him [the deity of Christ], and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.

Colossians 2:9. For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.

John 10:27-30. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me; (28) and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of my hand. (29) My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (30) I and the Father are one [having the same essence].

Hebrews 1:3a. Who [Jesus Christ] being the radiance of His [God the Father's] glory, and the exact image [deity of Christ] of His [God the Father’s] essence.

Jesus not only had to be born perfect, but He also had to be genetically descended from King David, in order to assume the title “Son of David” (Isaiah 9:7; Luke 1:32; Matthew 21:9).  However, as we have already discussed, the sin nature comes down in copulation through the father.  So, He, the humanity of Christ could not have a genetic father for if He had had a genetic father, he would have been born as we were born, with a sin nature. This would have automatically disqualified Him from being our savior. On the other hand, He had to have a genetic mother since the Messiah had to come from the line of David. Since Mary was descended from David and Bathsheba through their youngest son, Nathan, she was qualified to be that mother.

When Jesus was born, God created a soul for him and placed it in his biological life resulting in human life. At the same time, the Son of God (the deity of Jesus Christ, possessing all the characteristics of God as the second person of the Trinity) united with the Son of David, the perfect humanity of Jesus Christ. This resulted in one person possessing two natures: the God-Man. His status as the unique God-Man meant that the Lord Jesus Christ became the mediator between righteous God and fallen man, qualified to provide the work of reconciliation for all mankind on the cross.

The Birth of Jesus in Bethlehem (Luke 2:1-20)

Freedom through military victory is so important that God decided that the humanity of Christ would be born on December 25 which corresponds with the 25th of Kislev which is the Jewish 4th of July. This Feast of Hanukkah, the Feast of Lights celebrates the Maccabean revolt and defeat of the Greek, Antiochus IV of the Seleucid Empire.

The Maccabean revolt was initiated by Mattathias, a Jewish priest, a Hasmonean from the small town of Modiin in 167 BC. Being quite old, he died shortly after the revolt. However, his third son Judah Hasmonean later nicknamed, Maccabeus, the Hammer for he smashed the enemy like a hammer smashes to pieces whatever it strikes. The recapture of Jerusalem in 164 BC from the armies of Antiochus IV was a great victory followed by the subsequent cleansing of the Temple and the rededication of the altar on the 25th of Kislev (December 25).

Luke 2:1-7. Now in those days, a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that a census be taken of all the inhabitants [of the Roman Empire]. (2) This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. (3) And everyone was on his way to register for the census, each to his own city. (4) Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David [and that is where his family records would be], (5) in order to register along with Mary, who was contractually married to him [though the marriage had not yet been consummated] and was pregnant. (6) While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. (7) And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in death-cloths [cloth used for burial] and laid Him in a manger [Isaiah 1:3], because there was no room for them in the inn [due to the Feast of Hanukkah and the census].

Hebrews 10:5-7. Therefore, when he entered into the world, He said, you, [God the Father] do not desire sacrifice and offering, but you have prepared for me a [human] body [a quote from Psalm 40:6-8]. (6) You have not been propitiated by whole burnt offerings and sacrifice for sins. (7) At that time [in a feed trough] I said, Behold, I have arrived (in a scroll of a book it stands written concerning me) to accomplish your will O’ God.

The humanity of Christ magnified God the Father’s word above his own person, the secret to happiness.

Hebrews 10:7b. Behold, I have arrived . . . to accomplish your will O’ God.

Matthew 4:4b. The Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which proceeds through the mouth of God [the Father].

Matthew 26:39b. My father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not as I will, but as you [will].

Luke 2:8. In the same region [the region around Bethlehem where David tended his flocks], there were shepherds living out in the fields and guarding the flock by night [some guarded by day; others by night].

These lambs were used as animal sacrifices in the Temple in Jerusalem according to the Mishnah. These were lambs without spot and blemish.  Also, according to the Mishnah, these same shepherds were ostracized by the Scribes, Pharisees and priests since they were not able to attend the ritual worship occurring in the Temple. Even so, these shepherds were invited to attend the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Though the religious crowd ostracized them, the Lord honored them.

Why were they given this special honor? They were the handful of mature believers who preserved Judea as the client nation during this time of apostacy. Without them, there would not have been a nation in which the humanity of Christ could be born.

Luke 2:9-10. And an angel of the Lord [Gabriel as the angelic herald] suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. (10) But the angel said to them, “Stop being afraid [one cannot think under fear]; for behold, I bring you good news of great happiness which will be for all the people [who believe and advance spiritually].

Only mature believers have the capacity to experience this happiness (sharing the happiness of God).

James 1:12. Happy is the honorable man [the mature believer] who endures testing [Providential Preventive Suffering; Momentum Testing and Evidence Testing] because having become approved [at the Evaluation Throne of Christ], he will receive the wreath of Life which He promised to those who love Him.

I wish you, mature believers, a happy Christmas because I know that you have the capacity. For the rest of you, even though you will try to eke out some happiness from all of your partying and feasting, you will find out that delicious food and lovely people cannot make you happy.

Luke 2:11. For today in the city of David [Bethlehem] a Savior has been born to you [for your advantage], who is Christ the Lord.

Savior is emphasized since the cross must come before the crown.  His work on the cross must come before his rulership in the Millennium. In order to be a savior, he needed to be a mediator.  In order to be a mediator, there had to be an incarnation.  This incarnation took place in Bethlehem of Judea. As soon as his physical birth took place as prophesied in Micah 5:2, God the Son united with the humanity of Jesus.

Luke 2:12. “This will be a sign for you [the shepherds]: you will find a baby wrapped in death-cloths [used to wrap a corpse] and lying in a manger.”

The sign of the Messiah is two parts namely he would be wrapped in death-cloth which foretold that he was born to die and lying in a feeding trough to make it easy for the Jews to find their Messiah.

Isaiah 1:3. An ox knows its owner, and a donkey, its master’s manger, but Israel does not know [the Lord]; my people do not understand [where to find the Messiah].

Luke 2:13-17. And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God and saying, (14) “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth prosperity among men with whom He is pleased.” (15) When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord [via the angel] has made known to us.” (16) So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. (17)  When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.

After leaving Mary, Joseph and the newborn Jesus, the Shepherds told this story and in so doing evangelized many.

Luke 2:18. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.

They wondered was this the Messiah as prophesied in the Old Testament?

Luke 2:19. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Mary celebrated Christmas correctly by placing the highest value on knowledge of Christ and pondering this information over and over again in her soul.

Luke 2:20. The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as had been told them.

Though Christmas is a time to be with our friends and family, the emphasis should be focused on our mediator and savior. So, we are not to become so busy partying and celebrating that we ignore the true meaning of Christmas.

Old Testament documentation:

Isaiah: 53:2, 3, 6-9, “For He grew up like a sucker-shoot [draws nourishment from its own plant namely the proto-type spiritual life] before Him [God the Father], and like a root shoot out of parched ground [Israel dried up from legalism in the Lord’s day], He had neither ostentatious nor majestic appearance that we should stare at Him, therefore, no appearance by which we should be attracted to him. (3). Despised [hated by the Jewish religious unbelievers] and forsaken [by his loved ones] by men, a man of adversities [sorrows, pressures and pain] and knowing catastrophe [mental anguish from seeing an entire generation rejecting the gospel]; And like one from whom men hide their face [like a leper: Leviticus 13:45, 46], He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. (6). All of us [the human race] like sheep have gone astray; each one has turned [via free will] to his own way [not God’s way], therefore, the Lord [God the Father] has caused to fall upon Him [Jesus Christ] the iniquity [punishment for our guilt] of us all. (7). He was oppressed [abused, harassed: Satanic pressure via demons and human agents] and he was afflicted [every attempt to frustrate the cross: the abuse, slugging, scourging etc.], yet he did not open his mouth. Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a ewe-sheep that is silent before its shearers, so he did not open his mouth [he never lost his poise]. (8). By oppression [Jewish law] and by judgment [Roman Law: oppression and judgment, a reference to his trials] he was taken away [prior to the cross] and as for his generation who considered [and pondered: thoughtful consideration] that he was cut off out of the land [of Judea] of the living because of the transgressions of my people to whom the stroke of judgment fell [was due; a reference to God the Father’s judgment of Christ]? (9). While his burial was assigned with criminals [normally would have been buried with these criminals] yet he would be associated with a rich man in his death because he had done no wrong [of any kind with emphasis on overt sins] nor was there any deceit in his mouth [never told a lie, never maligned or judged; emphasis on mental and sins of the tongue].”
