MAX KLEIN BIBLE MINISTRIES

The Doctrine of Days

Written by: Max Klein

A. There are three ways of distinguishing time in the Word of God.

1. Dispensations which emphasize the plan of God throughout history.

2. Civilizations which emphasize the fact that because of spiritual death at birth and subsequent unrestrained functions of the sin nature, homo sapiens have the tendency to be self-destructive. Therefore, each civilization begins with believers only and ends with destruction and removal of all unbelievers.

a. The antediluvian civilization began with Adam and the woman and ended with Noah and the flood.

b. The postdiluvian civilization began with Noah and his family of seven others and ends with the Baptism of Fire at the Second Advent in which all unbelievers are cast off the earth.

c. The millennium begins with the baptism of fire at the Second Advent and ends with the Gog Magog revolution and The Last Judgment or Great White Throne judgment in which all unbelievers are cast into the lake of fire forever.

3. Days which emphasize the divine period of time for a divine trend in history.

2 Peter 3:8, “But beloved, stop letting this one fact escape your notice, that one day from the Lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like one day.”

B. Day in the Bible can refer to a solar day or to twenty-four hours.

1. The six days of restoration, Genesis 1:3-31. Creation only took an instant, but restoration took six literal days.

2. The Sabbath refers to a twenty-four- hour day, from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday. The Roman day was from midnight to midnight. The Sabbath, a special day of rest and worship in the Dispensation of Israel.

Exodus 20:10. But the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you.

3. “The Lord’s Day,” i.e., Sunday,

Revelation 1:10. I was in the Spirit [Filling of the Spirit] on the day belonging to the Lord [Sunday, resurrection day] and I heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet [The commanding voice of the Lord Jesus Christ],

4. “One day at a time,”

Romans 14:5-6. For, on the one hand, this one [the weak believer] considers one day greater than another day, on the other hand, that one [the advanced or the mature believer] considers every day alike [as from the Lord].  Let each believer be fully convinced in his own mind. (6)  He who observes the day [the strong believer] observes it to the Lord.  He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to the God [the Father]; in fact, he who does not eat [for example meat; the immature believer with his taboos] with reference to the Lord, he does not eat [according to Biblical standards], and he gives thanks to the God [the Father].

5. Taking in doctrine daily,

Psalm 119:97. O how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.

C. A figurative day in the Bible can be less than twenty-four hours; it is an instant, a second.

1. “The day of salvation,”

2 Corinthians 6:2. For he [the Lord] says [quoting from Isaiah 49:8], "At the acceptable time, I listened to you [the Lord listens to the unbeliever and his desire at God-consciousness], and on the day of salvation, I helped you [Common Grace followed by the Call of God the Father followed by Efficacious Grace]." Behold [Paul speaks to the Corinthian Christians], now [Isaiah in the Old Testament; Paul now in the Church Age] is the time for acceptance [the Corinthians must seize the opportunity to evangelize both by lip and by life the many unbelievers in Corinth who desire to enter into a relationship with God]; behold now [between birth and physical death] is the day [the time] of salvation [the unbeliever must hear the gospel from the Corinthian believer to express faith in Christ].

2. The Day of Christ: Though the Rapture will be instantaneous, the Evaluation will take some time.

1 Corinthians 15:52, "in a moment, in the winking of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead [the Christians who have died before the Rapture] will be raised incorruptible [the corruptible interim body becomes an eternal body], and we [Church Age believers alive at Rapture] shall be changed [mortality becomes immortality]."

Philippians 1:10. With the result that you may be approved [after passing undeserved suffering, one is approved] those things of greater value [divine blessing and doctrine] in order that  you may be completely pure [free from human viewpoint and evil thinking] and blameless [from good and evil produced in the Cosmic System] with reference to the day of Christ [the Rapture, and the evaluation which follows the Rapture].

Philippians 2:16. Be concentrating on the Word of life that I may have a basis for boasting with reference to the Day of Christ [the Rapture followed by the evaluation], that I have not run in vain, nor struggled [studied] for no purpose.

3. “The day of redemption” is a reference to the body of the Christian.

Ephesians 4:30. Furthermore stop grieving [offending, irritating, insulting] the Holy Spirit, the God [the genitive of apposition] by agency of whom you have been sealed [the Culminative Aorist: the signature guarantee of the Spirit guarantees eternal security] to the day of redemption [of the body which takes place at the Rapture of the Church].

4. “The day of God” and “the day of eternity” refer to the beginning of the eternal state.

2 Peter 3:12, Anticipating and earnestly desiring the coming Day of God [the beginning of the eternal state], because of which the burning heavens will be dissolved and the elements [atomic structure of the universe] will melt [fusion] with intense heat?

2 Peter 3:18. But grow in grace and in knowledge [keep on learning and applying the spiritual life] of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

D. A figurative day in the Bible can be more than twenty-four hours.

1. “The day of wrath” refers to the sentencing of the unbeliever at the Last Judgment, Revelation 20:12-15. The actual time span of the Last Judgment is unknown, but it is definitely more than twenty-four hours.

Romans 2:5. But on the basis of your scar tissue and obstinate right lobe [rejection of Christ even in Crisis Evangelism as a result of too much scar tissue] you [unbeliever] are storing up [depositing in your savings: every good deed] wrath for yourselves in the day of wrath [the Last Judgment], and the revelation of the righteous judgment of the God [The Lord Jesus Christ].

2. “The day” in which the quality of the Chrisitan’s production is tested and revealed.

1 Corinthians 3:12-15. Now if any man builds on the foundation [Christ] with gold, silver, precious stones, [produced in fellowship and so rewardable] wood, hay, straw [produced out of fellowship and so not rewardable; degrees of Satanic good and evil], (13) each man’s work [based-on experiential righteousness] will become evident; for the day [The Evaluation Platform of Christ after the Rapture] will show it because it is to be revealed by fire, in fact the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work [sin is not an issue at the Evaluation]. (14) If any man’s work which he has built upon it [the foundation of Christ] remains, he will receive a reward. (15) If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss [of his escrow blessings for eternity], but he himself will be delivered, yet so as through fire. [the believer himself does not go through fire, but he will think so when he in shame sees all of his works burned-up.]

3. “The Day of the Lord” may include the last half of the Tribulation, Second Advent, and the Millennium.

Isaiah 13:6-8 Wail, for the day of the Lord [a reference to the Tribulation and 2nd Advent] is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. (7) Therefore, all hands will fall limp, and every man's heart will melt. (8) They will be terrified; Pains and anguish will take hold of them; They will writhe like a woman in labor; They will look at one another in astonishment; Their faces aflame. (9) Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, Cruel, with fury and burning anger to make the land a desolation, and He will exterminate its sinners [the invading armies and all other unbelievers] from it.

Joel 1:15, Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord [the 2nd Advent] is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.

Zechariah 14:1. Behold, a day is coming for the Lord [the second Advent] and your spoil will be distributed among you.

Spoil means two things in this verse namely the distribution of Escrow Blessings to Jewish believers of the Tribulation who used the shield of faith to fulfill everything that was mandated by God and the fulfillment of the unconditional covenants to Israel. This verse also indicates that Jesus Christ controls history.

1 Thessalonians 5:2. For you yourselves know accurately that the day of the Lord [2nd Advent] comes like a thief in the night [suddenly to the earth and the enemies of Israel will be taken by surprise].

2 Peter 3:10. But the day of the Lord [a protracted period from the 2nd Advent to the end of the Millennium] will arrive like a thief [suddenly producing fear, panic and shock] in which [day: genitive of time within which] the heavens will vanish with a sudden roar and the elements [chemical structure of the universe] will be dissolved with intense heat [thermal action from nuclear fusion], both the earth [where sin, Cosmic good and evil took place] and works [a reference to the Book of Works, the basis of indictment at the Last Judgment] in it [the earth] will be investigated [a reference to the Last Judgment].

E. Biblical Observations about Days.

1. Days are lost through divine discipline.

a. Psalm 102:3, “For my days vanish like the smoke; my bones burn like glowing embers.”

b. Psalm 102:23, “In the course of my life, He broke my strength; He cut short my days.”

c. Psalm 89:45, “You have cut short the days of his youth; And you have covered him with a mantle of shame.”

d. Psalm 90:9, “All of our days pass under Your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.”

2. There is the importance of Bible doctrine for length of days.

Proverbs 3:1-2. My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments. Why keep the word of God? (2) For length of days and years of life and prosperity. They [metabolized Bible doctrines applied] will add that to you.

3. Days are related to right priorities.

Psalm 90:12. Teach us to number our days completely, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

4. Arrogance destroys living a day at a time; humility protects.

a. Proverbs 27:1, “Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day will bring forth.”

b. Psalm 25:5, “Guide me with Your doctrine and train me because You are the God of my deliverance. All day long I have confidence in You.”

c. 2 Corinthians 4:16, “Therefore, we are not discouraged; for though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is renewed day by day.”
